Welsh Fencing are pleased to announce that on Sunday March 5th we will be running an Athlete Development Programme (ADP) training day combined with the British Youth Championships (BYC) Qualifiers. The events have been combined to minimise costs for travel and weekends away.
We would encourage all fencers wishing to engage in more competitive fencing to attend the day and compete in the qualifiers to enable you to go to the BYC’s.
The ADP is a Welsh Fencing programme to further develop and support our fencers. More information is available on ADP (fencing.cymru). We are intending to run a brief session with parents and fencers to introduce the programme and answer any questions.
The outline programme for the day is:
9.45 Arrival
10.00 Introduction to the ADP to fencers and parents
10.30 Training sessions start. At this point we will ask parents to leave – full Welfare and Safeguarding protocols will be in place.
1.30 Start of BYC qualifiers. Parents are welcome to re-join and support their fencers.
4.00 Review and depart
To be eligible for the BYC’s, you must have a compete licence. More information is available on 2023 BRITISH YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIPS (BYCs)
If you wish to take part in the event, but do not wish to go to the BYC’s, a starter/recreational licence is sufficient.
There is a bye system in place for those who finished in the top 8 of the BYC’s in 2022 and in exceptional circumstances where a fencer is unable to attend the qualifying event. Again, there is more information on the link above. Most importantly – even if you have a bye, you must still enter into this qualifying event on Sport80 (link below) to ensure you are then registered for the BYC’s.
To register for the day, and all the venue and timing details are on this link: https://bf.sport80.com/public/wizard/e/38704
Current entries can be found here: https://bf.sport80.com/public/events/38704/entries/17070?bl=
You will note that there is no charge to attend as Welsh Fencing are subsidising the £10 levy implemented by British Fencing to support the cost of running the BYC’s.
To enable us to plan and give you as much notice as possible, please enter the event at your earliest opportunity.
All those qualifying for the BYC’s will then be contacted directly by British Fencing to enter the competition.
We very much look forward to seeing you at this event.
