Q = Automatic Qualification – Cadets / Juniors ranked in the top 30 and in the top 25% of the fencers on the ranking list with points
T = Selected for the Team & Entered for the individual – discretionary. Where there are 5 fencers, the coach will select the team following the individual competition.
Selections were made in accordance with the guidance that is published on the Welsh Fencing website. A process was followed whereby the ADP Cymru coaches submitted their recommendations to the board, who then made the final selections. This 2-stage process ensured that the decisions made were robust, objective, and consistent.
Fencers have a right to appeal if they feel that automatic selection has not been properly applied. There will be no appeals considered for team/discretionary places.
If you have any questions relating to the above, please submit them to us via this form which will be open for 2 weeks from the date of this announcement. https://forms.office.com/r/PaK1bHcNs0
No other forms of correspondence will be responded to. Forms submitted after the 2 week window will not be responded to.
Next Steps
Invitations to all selected athletes will be sent via Teamo. Please respond by the deadline of Monday 21st March or your place will be forfeited.
Cadets & Juniors - This trip will be fully managed, and planning is underway to determine the entry and exit points.
It is a condition of acceptance that all cadet and junior athletes stay as a squad in the official accommodation for the duration of their event. Coaches and a team manager will support the team and ensure that they are ready to perform to their best on competition days. Only the appointed WF coaches will be able to accompany fencers at the event
On non-competition days, all fencers will be supporting their team-mates who are fencing that day.
Parents are unable to stay in the athlete accommodation and will not be permitted to take their fencer away from the squad at any time before the defined exit point.
Subject to confirmation of time and place, the entry and exit dates will be as follows:
- Cadets - Entry date: Tuesday 16 August. Exit date: Saturday 20 August
- Juniors – Entry date: Saturday 13 August. Exit date: Tuesday 16 August
Seniors – The intention is to manage this trip, with a single team hotel and coaches and team manager to support the athletes perform at their best. We very much hope that fencers will make every effort to support the rest of the team on days they are not fencing but understand that some work commitments may be required.
More information on the logistics and arrangements for the event will be shared with all fencers/parents once it is available.
Financial Contributions
Welsh Fencing are supporting our athletes at this event by covering the full cost of cadet, junior and senior individual & team entry fees and the referee levy, plus the team entry fees and referee levy for the veteran event. We are also making a significant contribution to the costs of kit and providing coaches & team managers for the event across all the age groups.
Fencers will be asked to make contributions to cover hotel costs, and a contribution to coach & team manager costs, and team kit.
Those fencers entering one event will be required to pay a deposit of £150 on acceptance of their place (payable by 31st March). A further payment of £150 is required to be paid by 31 May.
Those fencers entering two events (such as Cadet and Junior, or Junior and Senior) will be required to pay a deposit of £250 on acceptance of their place (payable by 31st March). A further payment of £300 is required to be paid by 31 May. This is to cover the extra hotel costs, and further support the extra coach and team manager costs.
Late payment will result in the forfeiture of your place and loss of any deposit already paid.
If further costs are incurred, these will be invoiced at the end of the event; if costs are found to be less, any difference will be refunded.
